    Fellow Atlantans,

I have lived in many places around this country, but nowhere else has felt like home more than Georgia. Nowhere else have I felt that I could maximize the full potential of the American Dream. Nowhere else have I witnessed a renewing spirit and strong commitment to the idea of community, a place where everyone--whatever color, creed, or culture--is welcome.

Likewise, Atlanta is a unique city whose unmatched hospitality and southern charm arrest all who set foot on its red soil. From the posh enclaves of Buckhead; to the quaint delight of Inman Park; to the magical mélange of Reynoldstown; to the big city bravado of the business district; I love every part of this city.

I especially love where I live: East Atlanta. Perhaps more than any other area of the city, it embodies the idea of a truly diverse community and though few people know it, serves as an example of what is possible when residents work together to improve everyone's fortune.

However, as we face difficult and unprecedented financial times, I am concerned that much of the progress we have made as a state, city, and community is at risk of being lost; that the Atlanta Dream, as it were, will slip from the hands of thousands.

In fact, it is already happening. As a result of severe budget cuts made to survive the financial crisis, our community suffers. Foreclosures are at record highs. Crime is skyrocketing. Funding for our schools is being cut. Unemployment is in the double digits. Worst of all, people are losing hope for a brighter tomorrow.

As your representative, I will respond to the call of leadership in tumultuous times and carry on the baton of progress for this community. I will...

    Meet Mrs. Deidre Turner Johnson

Friends, as a native Atlantan, I share a passion for and dedication to making Atlanta the best city it can be. Having spent almost my entire life in Atlanta, I have watched with my own eyes the tremendous growth and progress of my beloved birthplace.

However, I know that more can be done and that more must be done. I strongly believe that while the challenges of this city are so great and seemingly insurmountable, collectively we can make a difference for the better.

Therefore, I support wholeheartedly my husband's desire to serve District 58 in the General Assembly. Not only do I support his efforts and goals, but I also commit myself to improving a community that has extraordinary potential.
